The 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season is one of the most open title races in the recent past with the first three teams are separated only by a point. The weekend matches are over with Arsenal still on top though on goal difference. The top three teams Arsenal, Leicester City, and Man City have a chance. Don’t rule out Tottenham Hotspur who have had a very good season too.
Arsenal have the resilience they’ve never had before, which has been brought by a different style of play and a good goalkeeper to complement it. Since his blunders in the first game against West Ham, Petr Cech has won Arsenal nearly 10 points so far in the league. Generally, Arsenal have built team stability as evidenced in the number of injuries they’ve had to cope with yet they still grind out results. According to Thierry Henry, a club legend,
“Arsenal… has learned how to win the big games even when they don’t dominate possession. In the past Arsenal have always been accused of having only one way to play — passing their way through opponents and walking the ball in. But this season they have developed a Plan B which is proving so successful in matches that really matter that it has almost become their go-to system.”
For Leicester City, they have been picking points in nearly every game. It’s hard to imagine that the Foxes went into the last two months of last season with only four league wins and were looking certain to be relegated. They’ve had a remarkable season and defied all expectations. Leicester City is the team with the fewest losses in this division, this season – they just won’t go away, won’t they? The thing about them is that they are really compact, committed, consistent, and know how to grind out results. The players have also kept their feet on the ground throughout the season.
Man City have a good squad and seem to be playing well, especially at home though they have problems winning away matches. Of the top three teams, Man City have the best squad (in terms of depth and quality). Despite being unpredictable, Man City remain title favorites with the bookies.
Tottenham Hotspur deserve a mention despite being fourth and five points off the top. They are having a good season so far. Mauricio Pochettino, the club’s manager, has successful built a young, hungry team that is full of energy and quality with a good defensive record and ability to score goals.
At the moment, any of these teams will win the league. For their fans, don’t put champagne on ice, not just yet. Currently, these teams seem to be helping each other in terms of results, which have made it difficult for any of them to run away with the title. Therefore, it’s anyone’s race. Write off any of these teams at your own peril. The BPL title is there for the taking!!!
